My name is Jeffrey Winston, and I’m proud to be running for the one-year seat on the East Brunswick Board of Education. I’m a lifelong resident of East Brunswick, born and raised in this town that has shaped who I am. I attended Warnsdorfer Elementary School, Churchill Junior High, and East Brunswick High School. Today, I’m raising my family here on a small farm where we care for chickens and four Labrador retrievers.
My commitment to this community runs deep. My wife serves as a member of the East Brunswick Town Council and is also an art instructor working with neurodiverse adult students. My son recently became a volunteer firefighter in town. Four of our children are currently enrolled in college, all shaped by the education they received in our public schools.
Professionally, I’ve been a financial planning consultant for the past 27 years. That experience has prepared me to approach school district financial challenges with clarity, accountability, and long-term strategy—qualities that are critical to the responsible stewardship of taxpayer funds and educational resources.
Both of my parents were lifelong educators and my father was among the original teachers to open East Brunswick High School. I’ve previously served as a member of the East Brunswick Board of Education and remain an active advocate for our schools. I founded the non-partisan East Brunswick Action Group to call attention to the specific needs of our community – particularly within the school district.
For 10 years, I also volunteer-coached in the Fast Break Basketball recreational league which gave me firsthand experience in how extracurricular programs contribute to student growth and community building.
I’m running because I believe East Brunswick deserves leadership that is deeply-rooted in this community and prepared to act. Our schools face real and pressing challenges.
Potential overcrowded classrooms and aging facilities are a portion of looming threats. Currently, additional challenges exist with pending state voucher programs and a response to the sweetheart tax deals that will increase student population due to overdevelopment of apartments with a low tax basis for school and township funding. I’m here for conversation but far more importantly clear direction and action. I’m ready to bring that leadership, with transparency, financial insight, and a commitment to every student in our district.
